Betting Games with Dice

Sixes Bet

This game involves the rolling of one die by the game’s operator. For the operator to win the player’s money, the operator must roll a six. The operator receives four rolls of the dice to accomplish rolling a six. This is to the operator’s advantage because the only fair way to compete in this game would be to allow the operator only three rolls of the dice. A variation of this game is called double sixes and uses two dice. In double sixes, the operator is given 25 chances to roll double sixes.

Five Rolls

This is a game that has its roots in bar rooms and is used mostly by hustlers. The player is given one die. The player must roll the die five times. If three of the five rolls of the die produce an even number then the player wins and is paid at odd of three to two.

Twelve Up

This is a game played using one die. The player and the operator both lay down a wager and the player chooses a number between 14 and 18. This is the number that the player’s total must equal in order for the player to win the game The player then rolls the die and totals up the values rolled until the player’s total has reached a number over twelve. If the player’s total is 13 then the operator of the game wins and takes the money that was wagered. If the player’s total is the number that was guessed prior to the rolling of the die then the player wins the bet. If any other total is rolled by the player, then no one is declared the winner and both parties recoup their initial wager.
