Bank Craps
At a table where bank craps is being played, there are usually four casino employees who are responsible for directing the game. There are two dealers who pay out and collect on all best that are made and make change for players. The boxman is the overall director of the game. Boxmen derive their name from the fact that they place currency into a money box as well as watch over the game. The stickman uses a hooked stick to recover the dice and handles some aspects of the betting that occurs. There is no limit to the number of participants as players place bets as to whether the person throwing the dice will win or lose. The dice thrower is known as the shooter.
A shooter begins play by throwing two dice against a wall on the opposite side of the table. If the dice add up to seven or 11 then the player is declared a winner. The first roll is called the come out roll and if the player makes the seven or 11 on the come out roll it is known as a natural. If a shooter rolls a two, three, or 12 on the come out roll it is known as craps and the shooter automatically loses. If a shooter rolls a four, five, six, eight, nine, or 10 on the come out roll then this number becomes the shooter’s point. The shooter will continue to roll the dice and wins if the shooter’s point is rolled again before a seven is rolled. If the shooter rolls a seven before reproducing their point, the shooter loses. If the shooter loses the dice are passed to the player’s left.
Betting
Line bets are made before the come out roll and are placed on the part of the table marked either Line, Pass, Win, or Do. The line bet is a wager on the shooter’s first roll. If the shooter does not win or lose on the come out roll then bettors are allowed to place another wager on whether or not the shooter will win by reproducing their point. This second opportunity to wager is called a free odds bet. |
